SoulPad at Park Farm, Bodiam
ImageEver seen the film Summer Holiday staring Sir Cliff Richard? Me neither (it's a bag of cheese I'm told), but one of our SoulPad staff members has and she likened our annual outing to the great film itself. You see, once a year we like to treat the SoulPad staff to a nice relaxing camping trip. We hire a mini bus, get together under the stars and do our annual reviews over a pint of cider, or something stronger. This year was no exception.

This year a friend recommended we try Park Farm Caravan and Camping Site located near Bodiam Castle in East Sussex, and we're glad we did.  The last bank holiday of the year saw the SoulPad team headed out of Thetford Forest (to the tune of 'Summer Holiday') in search of Park Farm.

How refreshing to find a campsite where you can choose your own space (no box hedge defined plots here). Sure, you still find those campers that feel the need to erect a barrage of windbreaks to define their space, to keep us out (or to keep themselves in?) But most seemed to 'get it' and were happy to share this vast area, there's just so much of it - some 300 acres in fact. Prices are per person, so you really do feel that you can spread out without having some warden grumble at you about the number of tents or other structures in your camp. A fleet of big red buses might push them a bit though - sorry Cliff.

This has to be one of the most chilled out campsites we have ever had the pleasure of parking our SoulPads on. The setting is idyllic: valleys flanked with big old trees that tower over the campsite, a river for the kids to muck about on, riverside walks to the castle and pub, Park Farm Camping a sheltered play area, a zip wire (great fun for kids, even better for adults once the kids are tucked up in bed) hot showers, soulfully friendly staff, cheap logs for your camp fire delivered to your door...really, what more do you need? The bank holiday atmosphere was ever-present, and the site emitted a warm festival-like vibe as more and more of those-in-the-know arrived, intent on replenishing their souls.

This truly is camping at its most soulful. With the annual reviews out of the way, we will definitely be heading back there at some point in the near future, for longer next time and with our Canadian canoes to hand.
