SoulPad & The Cosmos

We were thrilled when Artist Brian Griffiths contacted us with plans for his latest piece; 'These Foolish Travels' - an installation that certainly brings a huge splash of colour to Norwich Castle's Keep as part of the Norfolk and Norwich Festival.

Visitors to the castle will find four tents on display, one being a SoulPad 4000-ease™ painted to look like the cosmos. The remaining three tents are painted to represent the earth, the castle and the human brain. More images here.

These Foolish Travels runs until Sunday, June 2 at Norwich Castle. Mondays to Saturdays 10am–4.30pm and Sundays 1pm–4.30pm.

SoulPad Sponsors 6 Months in Scotland Wild Camp

Armed with a SoulPad 4000-ease, our new best friend Wayne Hall is soon due to set off into the sunset for 6 months of wild camping.

"With just my dog (Jerry) for company I'll be braving the Scottish elements for 6 straight months starting on Feb 27th 2013 & finishing on the 27th Aug.

I see this as a great opportunity to raise some funds for the very worthy charity 'Shelter' who do immense work nationwide helping families & individuals in times of real need.

The self-employed Tiler, who lives near the Peak District, decided to embark on the adventure of a lifetime after discovering that his rented cottage was about to be sold.

He said: “The idea of the trip really reared its head last September after spending a few days wild camping in Galloway Forest Park at Loch Moan.”

“I heard the news just after returning from Loch Moan that my home was to be sold by the landlords in the spring of 2013 — therefore a long trip became a real possibility.”

Bring Your Own Bell Tent!

Our friends at Old Bidlake Farm Camping, Dorset tell us "we have several enquiries every year from campers with their own SoulPad Bell Tents and [SoulPad] Tribes who would like to come and camp at Old Bidlake.

However, being located in such a sensitive area (of outstanding natural beauty) our local planners restrict us to allow just four canvas tents upon our camping field from April to October. We are also very aware that one of the things that makes Old Bidlake so special is the rarity of camping in such a beautiful location with so few other guests.

So for 2013 we are hoping that we have found a solution by running our pre-erected camping season from the beginning of May to mid-September and inviting a small number of campers with their own canvas tents to come and stay with us during April and late September.

Carbon Monoxide, BBQ and Fire Safety Advice

With the untimely deaths of so many campers being related to Carbon Monoxide poisoning each year, we were keen to team up with UKCampsite.co.uk to help raise awareness of the associated dangers.

Our friends at UKCampsite.co.uk say;

"BBQs and Carbon Monoxide - Important Please Read

Please note, although you may be tempted to put your barbeque in your tent, or tent porch, either during or after use, to keep you warm, DONT! It may kill you, and very quickly.

Carbon monoxide fumes from BBQs are invisible, odourless, and lethal. Even if you think it's safe, and the flames have died down, don't do it. The smouldering coals may be warm, but they will kill you. Even with the tent doors open. Even just in the porch. Please don't do it!

You can download a warning poster here alerting of the dangers of carbon monoxide - why not laminate it and put it in your tent window, or maybe ask the next site you visit to put it up in their reception window. ( poster is a PDF file )
